Le Collet

Village of the "Long Valley" in Cevennes

LOCAL HISTORY

The current borough is formed of the meeting of four villages: the Collet, Dourdon, Dèzes and the Bastide.
The hamlet of Dèzes is dominated by an antic"castrum" which gave its name to the country of Dèzes of which it was the chief town.
The existence of a habitat goes back to Celtic times.

The Reform gained all this country since 1561 and the near total of the population embraced the new religion. The revocation of the Edit of Nantes and the persecution involved the apparent conversion of the population which continued to meet together during the period of the "Desert" in isolated places of the borough: small valley of Meyrières, "Plau" of the Bayonets, "Ronc de Prego Diou"

Construction of the RN106, years 1880, the Departmental RailRoad (C.F.D) from Ste Cecile d' Andorge to Florac, in 1906 (closing of the line in 1968).
